50GPD Compact Domestic RO

A 50 GPD (gallons per day) compact domestic RO (reverse osmosis) system is a water purification system designed for home use. Here’s a brief overview of its features:

Key Features:

  • Capacity: Produces up to 50 gallons of purified water per day.
  • Compact Design: Space-saving, ideal for under-sink installation or small spaces.
  • Stages of Filtration:
    • Pre-Filters: Typically includes sediment and carbon filters to remove larger particles, chlorine, and other contaminants before the water reaches the RO membrane.
    • RO Membrane: The core of the system, where water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane, filtering out a high percentage of dissolved solids, heavy metals, bacteria, and other impurities.
    • Post-Filter: Often a carbon filter is used to polish the water, improving taste and odor.
  • Efficiency: Designed to provide a balance between water purification and water usage, with a moderate recovery rate to minimize water waste.
  • Ease of Use: It usually includes a faucet for dispensing purified water directly, and often comes with easy-to-replace filter cartridges.

Applications:

  • Drinking Water: Provides clean, safe drinking water, free from contaminants commonly found in tap water.
  • Cooking: Ideal for cooking, where purified water can enhance the taste and quality of food.
  • Appliances: Can be connected to refrigerators, ice makers, or coffee machines for pure water supply.

Specifications

  • Working pressure: 3-5 bar
  • Inlet Temperature: 20-30 ˚C
  • Max. Input TDS: 1000 ppm

Installation Steps:

  • Prepare Your Workspace:
    • Clear out the space under your sink and have all the components laid out for easy access.
    • Turn off the cold water supply valve under the sink.
  • Install the Feed Water Adapter:
    • Disconnect the cold water line from the shutoff valve.
    • Attach the feed water adapter between the cold water line and the shutoff valve. Use Teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaks.
    • Reconnect the cold water line to the adapter.
    • Attach the 1/4″ white tubing to the feed water adapter and then connect it to the inlet on the RO system.
  • Mount the Filters:
    • Mount the pre-filter housing assembly to the wall or the side of the cabinet under the sink using the provided bracket and screws.
    • Connect the blue tubing from the pre-filters to the inlet of the RO membrane housing.
  • Install the RO Membrane:
    • The RO membrane is typically pre-installed in the membrane housing. If not, insert the membrane into the housing, ensuring it’s fully seated.
    • Connect the red tubing from the RO membrane output to the post-carbon filter inlet.
  • Install the Post-Carbon Filter:
    • Use the mounting clips to attach the post-carbon filter to the side of the RO system or under the sink.
    • Connect the other end of the red tubing from the RO membrane to the post-carbon filter inlet.
    • Connect the black tubing from the post-carbon filter outlet to the faucet.
  • Install the Faucet:
    • Choose a suitable location on your sink or countertop for the RO faucet.
    • Drill a hole (usually 1/2 inch) if there isn’t one available.
    • Place the rubber washer and base plate over the hole, then insert the faucet stem.
    • From underneath, secure the faucet with the provided nut and washer.
    • Connect the blue tubing from the post-carbon filter to the faucet.
  • Install the Drain Saddle:
    • Choose a spot on the drainpipe above the P-trap.
    • Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the drainpipe.
    • Attach the drain saddle to the pipe using the provided screws, aligning the hole in the saddle with the hole in the pipe.
    • Connect the black tubing from the RO membrane to the drain saddle.
  • Connect the Storage Tank:
    • Attach the tank ball valve to the tank (use Teflon tape on the threads).
    • Connect the yellow tubing from the RO system to the tank valve.
    • Place the tank in a location where it can easily be accessed if needed.
  • Turn On the Water Supply:
    • Slowly turn on the cold water supply valve.
    • Check all connections for leaks. If any leaks are found, tighten the connections or reapply Teflon tape as needed.
    • Open the RO faucet and let the water run for about 5 minutes, then close the faucet.
  • Flush the System:
    • Allow the tank to fill completely, which may take 2-3 hours.
    • Once full, open the RO faucet and let the water run until the tank is empty.
    • Repeat the filling and flushing process at least twice before using the water for drinking. This ensures any preservatives or debris from the installation process are removed.

Final Setup and Use:

  • Monitor Water Quality: Use a TDS meter to check the quality of the water produced. The TDS levels should be significantly lower than the input water.
  • Tank Pressure: Ensure the storage tank is properly pressurized (typically 7-8 psi when empty).
  • Post-Installation Check: After a few days of use, check all fittings and connections again for any signs of leaks.

Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Filter Replacement:
    • Sediment, carbon block, and granular activated carbon filters: Replace every 6-12 months.
    • RO Membrane: Replace every 2-3 years, depending on water quality and usage.
    • Post-Carbon Filter: Replace every 12 months.
  • Sanitizing the System:
    • Annually, or when replacing the RO membrane, sanitize the system by flushing it with a mild bleach solution, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Water Quality Monitoring:
    • Use a TDS meter to periodically test the water. If the TDS levels begin to rise, it might indicate that the RO membrane needs replacement.
  • Check for Leaks:
    • Regularly inspect the system for leaks, especially around the fittings and the RO membrane housing. Tighten connections if necessary.
  • Storage Tank:
    • If the water flow from the RO faucet slows down, it might be due to low pressure in the storage tank. Check the pressure and adjust it if needed.
